October 1st Q. Cassetti G' 07 (Skype)

On Wednesday our Symposium guest via Skype will be the illustrator / designer Q. Cassetti.  Q.,  a graduate of Syracuse's Independent Study Degree Program has been a working artist for over thirty years with a diverse client list that includes The U.S Postal Service, Estee Lauder, Tiffany and Company, and T. Rowe Price, to name a few.

Cassetti's work has appeared in 3x3 Magazine, Computer Arts Magazine, Communication Arts, and Creative Quarterly.

Cassetti's work has been in several juried shows, winning awards in Creative Quarterly  28, 31, 34, and,35.

September 24th Chris Renaud '89 (Skype)

On Wednesday September 24th our guest speaker via Skype from France will be alumni Chris Renaud.  Chris, graduated from SU's Illustration program in 1989 and has gone on to direct several animated projects including DESPICABLE ME, DESPICABLE ME 2, and DR. SEUSS' THE LORAX.

9 / 17 14 Matt Dorfman '99

On Wednesday September 17th our guest will be the art director of The New York Times, Op-Ed page Matt Dorfman.

After earning a BFA in Illustration from Syracuse University in 1999, Dorfman spent the next ten years working as a designer and illustrator in various creative departments within the music industry. In the interest of seeking out more idea driven, narrative based projects Matt began freelancing, producing work for Penguin books, Wired, and The New Yorker, to name a few.

Dorfman, joined The New York Times, in October 2011.  His work has been recognized by the AIGA, Print magazine, and The Society of Illustrators.

Robert Sabuda Wednesday September 10th

On Wednesday September 10th the Illustration Symposium guest speaker will be Robert Sabuda.  Originally from a small town in Michigan, Sabuda, attended Pratt Institute in New York, where his focus was on 3-D Paper Engineering.  After graduating from Pratt, Robert, supported himself as a package designer, while trying to make inroads in children's book illustration.  Since 1986, Sabuda, has illustrated over 40 children's books including, L.Frank Baum's, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Clement Moore's, The Night Before Christmas.  Sabuda, has been awarded the Meggendorfer Prize three times, an award instituted by the Moveable Book Society of America, in honor of German illustrator, Lothar Meggendorfer.

Mr. Sabuda will be doing a demo in room 332 on Wednesday September 10th from 12:45pm to 2:00 pm in room 332 Shaffer Art Building.  We are going to have fun!
